Technology Group

Welcome to the web site of the Institute of Fundraising Technology Group.

Our group is for anyone working in or with charities and who has an interest in fundraising and technology. In a fast changing world, “Technology” for us includes, but is not limited to, websites, databases, the Internet, e-fundraising, or even the humble spreadsheet.

This often means we discuss closely related topics such as Gift Aid, Data Protection, list swapping, data hygiene, and New Media trends. You don’t have to be technical to participate in the group, and indeed, most of our attendees aren’t!

Our audiences normally include fundraisers, administrators, webmasters, web editors, database people and, yes, some IT support staff at charities, as well as a few consultants and commercial suppliers.

The main activities of the group are our popular regular meetings held through the year where we have a broad range of speakers presenting on different angles to the same topic. Meetings are held in London, as well as in conjunction with regional Groups.

Each meeting has at least two speakers and at least one will be a charity person giving their experience of the subject under discussion (so it’s not just suppliers and consultants pitching for business!). Meetings finish with the chance to network, often over a glass of wine and something to eat, so there is lots of time to network, get ideas and find out how other people solve any techie-type problems that you might be having.

Our programme for the year ahead is very varied consisting of presentations, a debate and the return of our all-day conference. This conference has taken a year’s break and promises to return in 2008 bigger and better than ever.

If you want to be kept uptodate with the latest news and activities on the group join our mailing list.

July Meeting 2009

Our next event is:

  • Event: The Great Data Debate
  • Date: 15th July 2009
  • Venue: Cancer Research UK, Room G35, 44 Lincolns Inn Fields London WC2A 3PX

With the depression of recession affecting us all in both our personal and business lives, never has it been more important to ensure our resources are being put to the most effective use.

Many charities are now focusing on their own business assets to support fundraising activity, providing cost effective solutions and maximising marketing spend. The key to this is data, and how you source it, use it and manage it.

In recognition of this, the Technology Group would like to invite you to our next evening event, to specifically look at all things data related:

  • Are you managing your data correctly and effectively?
  • How clean is your data now, and how should you be cleaning it?
  • How do you source accurate and responsive third party lists?

This will be an interactive session, lead by a panel of data experts, who will discuss current hot data topics and then open up the floor for (we hope!) a lively debate. Bring along your own experiences and particularly your questions and let your peers and our experts arm you with practical information which you can take away and employ within your organisation. And it doesn’t end there!! After the main session, there will be an opportunity to network with everyone over a glass of wine, to continue the discussion further!

We would like to thank our experts for their time participating in this event. The panel will consist of Andrew Creed (Managing Director, Orca Media), Rob Salmon (Managing Director, meta-morphix) and Martin Doyle (CEO, DQ Global).

Bookings now open.
